Mary C. Mueller, LICSW
Psychotherapist, Providence RI 02906 (401) 258-2838
I am a clinical social worker who believes psychotherapy is a creative, enriching and meaningful process. In a profession that constantly evolves, it is natural to discover new and rediscover old ideas and methods, to integrate them with the fundamental practice of psychotherapy. I work with each client to apply my knowledge, to discover their potential and to generate change.
My private practice welcomes couples, students and adults of all ages who are in a variety of situations. Transitions, marital and relationship issues, anxiety, depression, loss, trauma, chronic illness and bi-polar illness are conditions frequently seen in my office.
My specialty in expressive writing adds an element of creative energy and expansion for interested clients.
I began practice in an outpatient community mental health center, after extensive graduate school training in child guidance centers in New York and Massachusetts. My experience includes:
Community Mental Health (Kent County Mental Health) – work with family systems and individual children in play therapy on a range of issues including divorce and sexual abuse.
Child Guidance (Rhode Island Youth Guidance Center) - child guidance, families and play therapy.
Psychiatric Hospitals (Fatima Hospital Inpatient, Butler Hospital Outpatient clinic) - inpatient social work with families and inpatient groups. Butler Hospital Women’s Treatment program and Outpatient Child and Adolescent team. Extensive work with anxiety disorders, depression and trauma.
Group Private Practice (Psychiatric Specialists, Inc) - individuals, couples, families and adolescents.
